7 reasons to travel alone

Updated: Oct 19, 2024

I've never travelled alone before

I would never have thought that I would be travelling alone at some point, and then to a country that is completely foreign to me.

I've travelled a lot, to many countries, I love travelling.

... But travelling alone?

I travelled to Thailand at the beginning of the year with my backpack, alone, and it was an incredible experience!

Getting to know people

You're not alone and you're not lonely! Of course you get to know people when you're travelling with friends or your partner.

The conversations are different, you have different topics to talk about. It is easier to make new contacts and it is also more necessary to engage in encounters.

Recreate yourself

You try out things you have never done before, you dare to try new things, perhaps also because you are forced to master one or two challenges yourself

What a liberating feeling it is to jump over your own shadow and experience something that you would probably have missed out on!

It definitely broadens your horizons.

We grow from such challenges!

No expectations to fulfil

Simply spending time anonymously in a foreign country without any expectations. Nobody knows you, nobody knows who you really are. So you don't have to fulfil any expectations or obligations. You can be yourself, be free

Make no compromises

I would like to just lie on the beach today. But your partner would rather go for a hike today? You want to stay here longer at this temple and take a look at the temple next door, stop and take a few photos. Or go back to photograph the temple from the other side? You are the centre of attention here. The freedom to do what you want without compromising your companion.

You simply feel free, free for new things

Your own pace

Determine your own daily routines, decide for yourself when to go where and for how long to see which sights? Spend your holiday at your own pace, no stress with your travel companion. Sit in a restaurant or café until you don't feel like it anymore, go back to the hotel when you feel like it.

You also definitely walk through the world more attentively, you are not distracted or in conversation with your companion and discover so many little things and beauties, much more than the sights.

Being alone with yourself

Yes, we hardly ever do that. I think most people are downright afraid of it. We're not used to it, our world is hectic, we're involved in our surroundings and our everyday lives.

How often do we wish we could ‘have some peace and quiet’ or do something ‘in peace’? Travelling alone has the advantage of simply being alone with yourself, thinking your thoughts through to the end. Finding time to reflect on yourself.

Being on your own and enduring yourself. It's an incredible feeling once you've tried it. You become more self-confident.

Improve foreign languages

Making yourself understood in another language, or even having a conversation?

Most of us have inhibitions about talking in another language. We always think we don't speak it well enough or perfectly enough. Travelling alone forces us to converse in another language. The experience is unique. You manage, sometimes perhaps with the help of your hands and feet, to talk about far more than you can imagine. It is definitely an enriching experience. And once you've started, it's suddenly not so difficult to just start chatting away.

Every single reason is worth it!
